Unpicking our poor form: for me, it’s a case of lack of quality in squad depth. Vardy has been starved of service because Maddison & Tielemans, our two most creative players, have been lacking form since Xmas and there’s no one else with the quality to step up & create #lcfc
Praet is very good, but he’s not the guy who’ll get you 10 assists with defence splitting passes week in week out like Maddison and Youri are when at the top of their game. It’s worth noting, these lads are sub 23 years of age (bar Praet) so of course their form will dip #lcfc
Which leads me to my next point, our wide men still don’t offer enough. Barnes can be forgiven, he’s young, raw, and it’s his first full season at this level, and to be fair he’s not done too badly overall, 6 goals & 6 assists in 30 is a goal contribution of 1 in 3 #lcfc
To put that into perspective, Demarai Gray has only scored 18 and assisted 10 times in his entire career of 208 games! 9 goals & 8 assists in 5/6 years at #lcfc
While Ayoze Pérez has been somewhat disappointing for his price tag, 7 goals and 4 assists isn’t bad, but he’s lacked any consistency considering 3 of those goals came in one game. Albrighton has 3 assists in only 5 starts (11 as sub), but no goals. #lcfc
Combined, Barnes, Perez, Gray & Albrighton have scored 14 and assisted 14 between them. 28 goal contributions account for nearly 50% of our goals this season (60) but when you bear in mind Barnes accounts for nearly half of those contributions you see our issue #lcfc
Imagine the pressure of representing your boyhood club at 21 in your first full season in the premier league while the emphasis is on you to continue to score and assist to hang on to a top 4 place. It must be immense. #lcfc
We’re at a point now where, if we want to consolidate ourselves as a top team, we have to accept that we’ve outgrown Gray and Albrighton and require a calibre of player that delivers goals and assists on a regular basis to help if not surpass the likes of Barnes and Ayoze #lcfc
Which comes back to the fact we never managed to replace Mahrez, as tough a task as it is, we seem to have failed to even attempt to bring in someone with his ability to create and score on a regular basis. But that is the difference between a good side and a great side #lcfc
When you’re in a slump as we are, the big teams all have that one or two players that come up with something special and lifts the whole team. Who’s doing that for us? No one. We’ve a very young side, meaning we have very few players in their prime years #lcfc
It doesn’t mean the likes of Maddison, Barnes or Tielemans won’t become the players that lift a team by the scruff of the neck, but right now they’re not. We lack experience when times get tough like this, and we lack key players in their prime. #lcfc
But of course, the danger is we may never see the prime of our current players if we don’t fulfill our ambitions. They will move on, and we’ll find ourselves hunting out the next big thing and the process repeats with us never quite making it... #lcfc
Which is why I feel we need to make a statement up top and bring in a marquis wide forward in his prime. It’s difficult, granted, but it’s the only way we make it to the next level. Someone of the ilk of Peresic (unlikely), Zaha (UCL football dependant), Visca (a gamble) #lcfc
I can’t see Coutinho happening and even if he did join I’d be sceptical as we don’t seem fashionable enough for him - would we see the best of him or would we be a payday or stepping stone? Another unlikely candidate is James Rodriguez #lcfc
Rodriguez is the type of player we decide would never come to us and he ends up playing for West Ham
#lcfc

In the same breath, Dembele at Lyon or Edouard at Celtic to take some of the burden off Vardy, again, the type of players we’ll say we can’t get but they’ll end up at Spurs or Arsenal - teams we’re looking to surpass of not compete with #lcfc
Regardless - I’d like to see our transfer policy begin to reflect our ambition, with a mix of finding those up and coming talents we’ve been so successful with, and ensuring there’s the quality in prime players for them to learn from and guide the club in hard times #lcfc
