Reading this from the @jameskirkup piece on Harriet Harman has really made me think
"The people who say things we agree with must be all good, and the ones who say things we dislike do so because they are all bad"
"The people who say things we agree with must be all good, and the ones who say things we dislike do so because they are all bad"
In one sentence he has highlighted an issue that is rotting away at the heart of our politics
We all know it is
We all see it
On every issue
But very few people are willing to do anything about it

And it cuts across so many issues, the 'cancel culture', the book burning, s/he voted that way on Brexit so nothing they ever do can be good
No one can change their mind on an issue without being publicly shamed or disowned
And it drags everything into a cycle of hate

At the mild end it is the unsolicited DM that says "why are you engaging with 'x' s/he is hateful and thinks x,y or z
The next level up is the pile on because you've agreed with someone on the 'bad list' and for many it escalates in stages up to rape and death threats

It isn't an issue that owned by one politcial tribe, both left and right do it, 'centrists' (hate that word) do it
