For the last 15 weeks, our son has had 0 hours of professional #SEND support outside of a weekly phone call from his lovely teacher. He doesn't understand about the #coronavirus pandemic and if he is concerned, he can't tell us because he has #SpeechAndLanguage difficulties. 1/2
Yesterday, A @CommonsEd committee discussed the impact of #COVIDー19 on #SEND education. The chair, @halfon4harlowMP asked the vital question, have they been forgotten? Phillipa Stobbs @CDC_tweets said some areas are providing 'stunning provision.' Sadly, we haven't seen that.
FYI, the 'waiving of Section 42' by @GavinWilliamson, basically means schools/councils only have to make 'reasonable endeavours' during the #coronavirus pandemic to provide the support that's set out in a child's #EHCP (it's a document that every #SEND child has)...
I won't go into how mind boggling an #EHCP can be and how draining the process of getting one is but it's a VITAL legally binding document. The tweak to Section 42 waives that legal duty. Ali Fiddy from @IPSEAcharity highlighted the impact of this...
It's difficult to bring up money when so many are struggling due to #coronavirus but does 90p per child for #SpeechAndLanguage support in the West Midlands, compared with £7.29 in London sound fair to you? I repeat, our son has had 0 professional support for 15 weeks.
