Really grateful to participate in the fascinating #MultipolarMENA conference @ProjectSEPAD. Special thanks to the the organisers for putting together such a wonderful event - @drmabon @EdwardWastnidge @cjophillips @DrFrancescoBelc @OliviaGlombitza @EyadAlRefaei @elias_ghazal

In my presentation, I put on the theoretical hard hat testing the construction of order in the Middle East. Does the implied state-centrism of “multipolarity” limit the way we think about hegemony, power and order in the Middle East?
Locked down reading books on hegemony, watching the world reject racism and Western imperialism forced some seriously difficult but necessary research reflexivity. When we describe power in the Middle East, imposing “multipolarity” carries a sense of continental securitisation.
There were so many cutting edge thought-provoking presentations across the week! I was on a panel w/ @dylansmaguire who does fascinating work on ideological polarity beyond the state, looking at security preferences of sub-state actors!
I’m not sure if my work will go beyond the sympathetic ears at the @SEPAD "school". But keep an eye out for an ethnographic piece very close to my spirit on Afghan-Hazara Diaspora Relocation and Migration in Australia! Thanks again to the excellent team at @SEPAD
