I want to respond to this comment about the Mayor even though I don't normally respond to anonymous people on Twitter.
Merry Voyage, you seem like you're being earnest here and not trying to troll so I want to share why I feel this comparison to Trump is more than fair. https://twitter.com/MerryVoyage/status/1278526173417373698

This thread is really for other folks who may think "Hey, the Mayor seems alright? Why is everyone so mad at him?"
Under Garcetti's leadership, Los Angeles has faced severe crises including homelessness, climate change and COVID-19.
While Garcetti didn't cause these issues, he has either directly worsened them, has plans to worsen them or is choosing inaction.

Yes, Garcetti talks a good game on homelessness. He seems to get it. His actions show otherwise.
First, Prop HHH. The landmark measure he "worked hard to get passed" in 2016.
Four years later, only 2 of the HHH projects are operational. Two. Two of them.
(You can see this data here: https://hcidla2.lacity.org/hhh-progress )
Second, he launched something called "A Bridge Home" which is an initiative to build transitioning housing in every council district. Sounds good, right?

Each Bridge Home site takes months to put together. Months. Yeah, I don't know why either.
When they come online, they only have around 75-100 beds. There are only a handful of these sites and they serve only a MERE FRACTION of our population. https://www.lamayor.org/ABridgeHome

PLUS, Garcetti and City Council enacted what they call "enforcement zones" around each site so every transitional shelter comes with a side of CRIMINALIZATION.
Didn't get a spot inside? Well, you'd better move your tent or we'll move it for ya! And here's a ticket too.

Garcetti made a move to close LA early. This seemed positive, cautious.
But what did he not consider? That NEARLY HALF OF LA is rent-burdened. That people would not be able to pay their rent or sustain their businesses.
He did virtually nothing about this. The Mayor and City Council did enact some minor rent freeze and eviction measures but we are still seeing people get evicted.
And even if your rent didn't go up, you still have to pay it! While you have no job, thanks to the Mayor.

Also, COVID-19 poses a big risk for Black Angelenos, Latinx Angelenos as well as the elderly and folks without housing.
What did Garcetti do to help make sure each of these populations got the additional support they needed?

Well, he threw up a few testing sites and opened a few park rec shelters and called it a day.
Don't worry that you have to drive to the testing sites! That's easy when you don't have a car or any money to pay for gas.

LAPD has killed hundreds during Garcetti's time in office. Garcetti has done nothing to change that. In fact, he's only doubled down on more police.
Year after year, when Black LA leaders have offered him alternatives, he ignored them.
Instead sending more cops out to handle everything from homelessness to mental health to traffic to social media. Meanwhile DIVESTING in Black communities.

Garcetti has stood behind both Jackie Lacey and Michel Moore. He could fire Michel Moore but he chooses not to. He could invest in alternatives to policing. He could create mental health resources. He could invest in violence interruption programs.
He chooses not to.
He chooses not to.
I haven't even covered The Olympics. Garcetti fought hard for LA to win the 2028 Olympic Games, one of the most destructive horrible things you could do for a city in as much pain as ours.
So, sure, did Garcetti do a couple things since he's been in office? Yes. The Expo Line now goes to Santa Monica. He's helped open a couple shelters and apartments. He wrote a song about the 405.
Meanwhile, MILLIONS can't pay their rent.

TENS OF THOUSANDS suffer on our streets because he refuses them the most basic services of water and bathrooms.
Angelenos across the city struggle to get their critical needs met. Healthcare, education, transportation, food, the internet and well-paying jobs all remain elusive.

Los Angeles has a Mayor who talks like he knows what he's doing and yet his actions do not match his words. He's just as dangerous as Trump. Maybe more so.
We live in a city that is continually in crisis because the guy in charge wants a fancy title in Washington DC.
