One of the toughest things about freelancing is negotiating pay 💵
(Can be awkward, difficult & emotional!) 😭

What would you say to yourself now if you were just starting out as self-employed? 💭 🤔

Hoping to run through some top tips ❌ ✅ with students later today...
So far I’ve got:

- Ask the going rate/budget 1st (before quote £)

- Start high (you can negotiate down but not up)

- Have some standard (day rates, hourly) in mind for consistency

- Research the client & brief (budgets vary)

- Stay polite

- Don’t be afraid to say no thanks
- See what fellow professionals charge (network, ask, or use Rate For The Job)

- Take your time / don’t rush / reflect & come back

- List your reasons for pay / your value (this can mirror back the brief)

- Be aware of pay gaps & know your worth

- Practice / role-play 1st
