listen i know independent businesses cant afford to pay employees a ton i get it i get it i know how money works but goddamn working minimum wage jobs has made me distrust every establishment that pays its employees minimum wage.
the exploitive nature of nine dollars an hour really shines through when you think of jobs as, like, tasks done directly in exchange for that money. i know how that sounds, no im not just complaining, like, wait, thread:
how much money would i have to pay you straight up to clean a disgusting drain full of months of clogged shit and grime?
how much to unload and organize an entire pallet full of 40lb cases of food, fast?
how much to plan and order the entire menu for someone's wedding reception?

if you directly asked me to do any single one of those tasks for you, no job attached, i would ask for, like, way more than nine damn dollars. and when you're working minimum wage you end up doing multiple tasks like this in an hour... what's the goddamn point....
minimum wage SUCKS because the more efficient you are at your job the more tasks you're doing in an hour and the less money you're making for each one LMAO how am i supposed to bust my ass when i get no benefit, no raise, and usually no real upward mobility in the company?
i busted my ass at gordons for the first 8-ish months fighting for a raise. i walked 2 miles to work at 5am and stayed there until 3pm doing hard manual labor. sometimes to finish truck on time i'd have to RUN as fast as i could in the cooler while working. MY RAISE WAS 15 CENTS
now obvs "the goddamn point" is that you have to work these jobs to survive and to have any hope of ever working a job that Isnt Minimum Wage but oh my god it's so fucking bleak. it's so bleak and life-draining and horrible and people yell at you for not being able to find better
my problem though? if i do find something better, someone has to fill that job position when im gone. that full time position at gordons EXISTS to exploit someone. just bc i may leave and find something better doesn't mean someone else isn't just going to take my spot and suffer
why do jobs like that fucking exist!!!! why do we let them exist!!! just because someone works their way out of minimum wage doesn't mean everyone else still stuck in it deserves what they're dealing with!!! people deserve so much better than that!
whether you're a high schooler making spending money or you're a grown adult supporting multiple kids, nobody deserves to have their labor valued at like one dollar per task or less. it's horrible it's dehumanizing and everyone deserves better than that
