Rent is due today and 1 in 5 adults say they are unable to make their rent or mortgage payment this month.

Millions are unemployed and more than 50% of households have lost income.

Most families are fighting on two fronts: a global pandemic & a society that is failing them. 1/9
Virtually all of the economic ramifications of the pandemic were avoidable. The bankruptcies, the closing of small businesses, the looming eviction crisis, the looming credit crisis, the homelessness crisis.

All preventable. 2/9
The US was in the midst of a mental health crisis *prior* to the pandemic. Suicides & deaths of despair were at an all-time high. 3/9 https://twitter.com/ArashKolahi/status/1134538683938328576
Add to that the completely preventable financial stress & anxiety of trying to survive a pandemic with little or no economic relief for the most vulnerable.

Black people are being lynched. Protestors are being brutalized. Activists are being disappeared. Communities are being terrorized.

Lives are being lost, people are hurting & the net effect of our entire political circus show is an abject failure.

Or, depending on how you look at it, it’s working exactly as it’s supposed to: perfectly furthering the interests of the 1% at the expense of everyone else. 6/9

Our problems are systemic & systemic problems need systemic analysis & systemic change. 7/9
Those in power maintain their power is by pushing narratives & conspiracy theories that distract & deflect the true sources of people’s pain & suffering.

They blame immigrants, gays, people of color, everything but the true source: a system that benefits them at our expense. 8/9
Part of our job as leftists is helping connect the dots of oppression & injustice that people feel with the true systematic sources: capitalism, racism, sexism, etc.

More, we need to present an alternative direction to move our society’s institutions: 9/9 https://twitter.com/ArashKolahi/status/1157358909054574592
