Siegelman was prosecuted after his "defeat" in 2002 in his race for reelection as governor. His opponent was Bob Riley. As noted, Riley's campaign manager was Bob Canary, Karl Rove's business partner. Six thousand votes disappeared from Siegelman's total in the dead of night. 5/
Rove's client, the Alabama AG, seized the paper ballots before they could be recounted and illegally certified the result. 6/
