why you SHOULDN’T repost/edit fan arts [a very much needed thread]

let’s start this off simply: i don’t wanna offend anyone but this is getting out of hand. i’m tired of dm-ing ppl telling them to take down their post because it contains uncredited art so i’ll be making this thread. buckle up :)

first things first, repost.

if the artist put “do not repost/use” their artworks on their bio, please cooperate.

it’s their artwork and it’s their account. have common sense. they didn’t spend all that hours behind the screen so you can steal their works for clout.

there are tons of underrated artist with amazing works that never got the recognition they deserve because some of y’all didn’t credit them properly.

“ctto” or “name on screen” is NOT how you credit someone.

you didn’t spend hours drawing. it’s not you who suffers from commitment issues and art blocks. some of them even had back problems. you have ZERO rights to say what’s wrong and what’s right to them.

imagine how annoying it is to post something you’re really proud of and it got a few likes, (i’m not saying it matters, keep doing what u love my fellow artist ily) only to found out someone else reposted it on another account without crediting and stealing all the clout.

of course it’s annoying.

doesn’t matter what platform they use: instagram, twitter, facebook or tumblr. seeing YOUR artworks on someone else’s account with tons of exposure is honestly disheartening.

secondly, edits.

now y’all might think i’m gatekeeping but listen:

using fan arts on your edits (doesn’t matter selfies, headers or icons) still count as reposting.

so stop :)

because you have ZERO rights to do so. it’s the artist works. unless you credited them, unless they gave u the permission, then it’s completely fine.

it’s not even that hard to actually make the effort to dm and ask artists for permission. if they said no, you shut up and learn it.

no need to go out and cry “they’re so stingy and unappreciative” and making the artist looks bad. learn to take no for an answer. it’s easy.

also: if the artist tells you to take down your post because it has their works in it, pls do it. don’t make them beg. just take down the post, apologise for using their works, and never repeat the same thing. simple as that.

by the way: “i found it on pinterest” is a stupid excuse and i’m tired of hearing it. if you’re unsure of where it’s from, use reverse image search or simply don’t post it at all. easy.
