I’ve dreamed for years of providing publishers our licensing language preferences when *we ask* for the license. And request the vendor makes edits that meet our legal and business needs *before* sending the license to us for our review.

It’s been five years of wishing and one year of planning/drafting (with lots of distractions along the way).
The guidelines were drafted, blessed by general counsel, and our ERM unit now sends out our license needs doc with license requests. For 2.5 months. And nothing. No response of significance. But today, today!!!!.......
Today I opened a new license and EIGHT of our asks were included in the license. With little editing done to our language.
And they were good ones, including: fair use, scholarly sharing, usage stats, privacy, choice of law. The license doubled in length. These were NEW clauses.
I shed a tear of happiness. A minor victory. Small. But progress. An appropriate gift for my 15th anniversary (today!) as a librarian and a license negotiator. 😁
