my problems with "amab/afab nonbinary"
1) why are you using amab/afab? does this thing you are discussing have to deal with the genitals we had at birth? 99% sure that it doesn't. why are you not addressing nonbinary people (simply, nonbinary people) then? why do you feel the need to mention our genitals?
2) so you think your situation needs to address genitals. are you sure? or do you really mean masculine/feminine nonbinary people? what about nonbinary people who had bottom surgery? do they really belong with their agab if this is something you're calling a genitals issue?
3) is this an issue with just amab/afab nonbinary people or is it an issue with all nonbinary people and you're just failing to see the big picture? there's been concern about amab nonbinary people being not welcomed in "women and nonbinary spaces" (but again, do you really mean
amab? what about trans masc nonbinary people or people who have had bottom surgery? where do they fit into this?) which is a completely valid concern but it's taken as an only amab issue. in reality, it's also misgendering afab nonbinary people and not truly giving them the...
resources/help which is a form of exclusion in itself. it also reinforces the "woman lite" stereotype which affects the whole community. different parts of the nonbinary community are affected differently by transphobia, but they're still *nonbinary* issues.
4) intersex nonbinary people exist. i've seen some intersex nonbinary talk about how afab/amab doesn't necessarily apply to them. where do they fall in all of your afab/amab discussions?
5) it's very obviously meant to gender nonbinary people. there's a joke in the nonbinary community about "girl nonbinary and boy nonbinary" and that, breaking these afab/amab nonbinary discussions down to their core, is usually what's happening.
6) it's also trying to make us a part of the binary. "nonbinary" is meant for anyone who doesn't fully fall into the "female/male" categories. there are thousands of unique ways people experience their gender and choose to present it. you're telling me that all those different..
identities can be neatly split into two based on what genitals we were born with? nonbinary people are extremely and widely varied but you're trying to confine us in those two categories? the two categories that just happen to "reflect" the two binary genders? really?
7) cis people & binary trans people: why the fuck are you so obsessed with our genitals? the times i have see amab/afab nonbinary are when cis and binary trans people talking about OUR issues and wanting to constantly just. bring up what parts we had when we were born? the fuck?
to conclude: just stop using "amab/afab nonbinary." most of the time you mean something else. also i shouldn't have to explain how deeply uncomfortable & transphobic it is for yall to be obsessing over & assuming the genitals a group of trans people were born with. what the fuck.
