Less than a minute after commenting that he recognized an officer, that officer and three others lunged @TheRealCoryElia , threw him to the ground, and arrested him.
Yau @PDocumentarians was filming a woman being arrested while also complying with PPB orders when he was tackled and arrested. He was wearing a helmet with large “PRESS” written on it, was holding cameras, and had press credentials on.
Charges against @Human42LM were dropped. The DA’s office said it had not taken legal action against Elia or Yau and was still collecting evidence.
In a letter to the mayor, Oregon House Speaker @TinaKotek excoriated PPB and said they had created an unsafe situation and public health hazard when they used tear gas to disperse the demonstration and called it “an utter inability to exercise restraint.”
“I continue to be disturbed that journalists and independent reporters are being targeted,” Kotek wrote. “These actions undermine our democracy.”
