Is Luke intentionally recapitulating Israel's story as he closes Acts for the purpose of intensifying (historically) the truth of their failure to turn in repentance?
After all, the book closes with Paul turning to the Gentiles.

Disobedient Israel dies from serpent bites, while obedient Paul lives in spite of a serpent bite.

Disobedient Israel remains blind to the gospel and sent further into damnation through proclamation, while Paul the obedient Israelite not only has his eyes opened (a conversion much like Isaiah) but is sent out to open other's eyes through proclamation.
