I assume the data behind this genuinely points to it being better for kids and their parents to risk getting COVID than it is for them to stay home. But it's clinical and mathematical, and there's no way I'm sending my kids back to a classroom. https://www.aappublications.org/news/2020/06/26/schoolreopening062620
I understand that there is a calculation for kids that may be suffering while at home. Abusive parents, terrible conditions... and that schools serve as a necessary escape for those children. The same goes for parents that simply do not have a choice. They must work w/o childcare
But the guidelines they recommend are written as though children are more orderly than adults. Kids aren't going to remain 3-6 ft apart at all times. They aren't going to be washing their hands and sanitizing work stations. They won't be keeping their masks tightly fitted.
We're essentially just giving up, because as a nation we've decided that sufficient economic support during a pandemic, and sufficient social support for children who suffer are much bigger problems to deal with than a few tens of thousands of dead.
Secular home school it is this year. Just one more tether to our location severed.
