#HappyCanadaDay, if you're celebrating it today. And if you view this country's history of colonization & racism a reason not to celebrate the anniversary of the Constitution Act, fair point.
The past few weeks have certainly caused many to take a closer look at this country. 1/
Over on @ThisIsWhy, @d_mac1519 and I have dedicated the past month to look at things like:
▶️ anti-Black racism and living as a Black person in Canada, with @cdfoggo & @AnthonyNMorgan https://omny.fm/shows/this-is-why/being-black-in-canada
2/
▶️ Canada's history of conversion therapy and the parallels btwn issues of racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia with @KristopherWells https://omny.fm/shows/this-is-why/conversion-therapy-and-pride-during-coronavirus
3/
▶️ The long history of anti-Indigenous racism that Canada is founded on, with @rymoran of @NCTR_UM & @Siksika_Nation Chief Ouray Crowfoot https://omny.fm/shows/this-is-why/anti-indigenous-racism-in-canada 4/
▶️ And then we asked all of them what can be done about racism and discrimination in this country we call #Canada https://omny.fm/shows/this-is-why/addressing-racism-in-canada
Whether you're for #CanadaDay, our you want to #CancelCanadaDay, this past month has laid bare the country's problem with racism. 5/
I hope the conversations about and reconciliation of racism in Canada continue and push all of us to build a better country, towards the pluralist, multicultural idea that many hold about this land.
