Fifty years ago today, Iran signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The world is reminded of this important date as Tehran stands in violation of its safeguards commitments. 1/
Iran should immediately cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency's investigation into undeclared nuclear materials and activities on its territory and abide by the recent IAEA Board of Governors resolution calling for it to do so. 2/
Iran has serially violated its legal NPT obligations by hiding a vast, well-structured nuclear weapons program up until at least 2003, and afterward it likely continued activities in a more dispersed fashion.

If Iran has nothing to conceal today, it should be transparent about its intentions and permit inspections. If Tehran does not swiftly come back into compliance with the NPT, the UNSC should consider re-imposing international sanctions. 4/
