Many will say Genthru is not great because of his motives or charisma, but this is a faulty argument. At first glance, he seems to have no depth, yet on deeper inspection, one will find that his motives and character are as layered as any amazing villain.
He’s know as “The Bomber” for his physical abilities, but viewers often overlook that this is not the only reason. He also has bombs going off (his guilt) inside of his heart, exploding day in and day out, like gunshots going off at night while one is trying to sleep.
Additionally, many might see money as a poor motive, but they are uneducated to think so. He actually serves as a foil to Leorio; as we see Leorio grow more greedy, eventually attacking Ging towards the end of the series to secretly steal his wealth...
The bomber grows more human, as the great fires inside him give rise to empathy, as he loves his own comrades as much as his own life by the end, requesting for his comrades to be healed. This is a symbolism relating back to Christianity, Buddhism, and every religion ever.
We see the conflict of ideals within our beloved “Bomber”, as Utilitarianism, Deontology, & Virtue Ethics wage war on one another inside him (relating back, once again, to his nickname). This is all difficult to catch, and most viewers need an IQ above 160 to understand this.
He also aids in setting up the CA arc, being the peak of Villainy in HxH & fiction. He does a great job of setting up our next antagonist, an angry, green ant who is terrible at chess. The Bomber is far more human & draws a clear distinction between true prowess and fragility.
