Such a pleasure sharing my research with @DVRPC today.

This presentation summarized two studies that I conducted with @DrTaraGoddard @cgthigpen and @EvanIacobucci.
We focus on two big issues in existing coverage.
We focus on two big issues in existing coverage.
Issue #1: The sentence-level grammatical choices we make shift blame away from drivers and towards pedestrians. The good news? VERY simple changes can shift perceptions.
Issue #2: We treat crashes as isolated incidents, when they are really a pattern of events. The good news? When we provide context and connect the dots between crashes, perceptions shift.
Planners & advocates can help journalists by proactively reaching out and making yourself available as a source.
Draft a statement that connects the dots, offers a solution, and humanizes the victim.
Together we can make better coverage universal and that will save lives.
