This is not just a pic of a Little League Baseball Team, this is a pic of LOYALTY! Allow me to share this story: When I was 11 yrs old, I was a highly touted baseball player at Lions Park, who was voted MVP of the city of Raleigh...The following year, the coach who gave me..Contd
The opportunity, decided to focus on his health. The following year, In comes, a man who drove through our "hood" in a purple van looking for players to tryout for his team at Roberts Park! Roberts Park was in walking distance, so my boys & I said "Why not"? We tried out and made
Made the squad...He picked us for practice everyday. He was a fashion designer so we had practice Jerseys, and the best of everything as long as we maintained a B average...There was only One problem....The new coach of my old team said "If Velle dont play on our team, he won't"
"Play for anyone"..He went to the city and reported me as playing out of my district. The city interjected and told my new team, "If he plays on your team, you must forfeit every Single game"...I found out years later that my coach called a meeting and explained the ramifications
To the team. He asked what they wanted to do...They all said "No Velle, No us"..we'll forfeit every game but he playing with us..We went undefeated that year, and had our own Championship celebration. However, the most important lesson I learned was LOYALTY! We were 11 yr old
Kids in the projects, but had each other's backs at all times. I tell this story because it seems Loyalty no longer exists in this world. Everyone is for themselves. The world could learn from some 11yr old project kids that played on a baseball team called Male Fashion Society!
