Look, my experience with females in the Army has been vastly different from most, specifically those in combat MOS’.

I was never in a combat MOS and being a Drill Sergeant was the only time I was never in a pretty evenly mixed unit before moving into Recruiting.

There are two different Army’s. They’re just are and this Vanessa Guillen story highlights it. We have long operated in the Army of a male only mindset; where these issues didn’t exist. When I came in after 9/11, SHARP didn’t even exist 2/
We went over some very basic EO training, but the stuff we check the box on now didn’t come into play until after we had already been in Iraq for too long. And the reason we have so many issues today is because those at the highest levels...3/
Didn’t come up experiencing or dealing with these issues. Now they’re in command or advising commanders with no more than the power point knowledge we all get these days. It’s grossly inept.

But this will only get better with the new leaders coming up. 4/
The young E6’s and platoon leaders will have to be the facilitators of change as it relates to all of these issues and mishandlings everyone’s speaking out on.

Those at the top are already there.
