In April, I joined UN experts in calling on Secretary General @antonioguterres to take action to address the UN's failure to provide justice to #cholera victims in #Haiti. The SG's stunningly cynical reply is now public. My response below. 1/5 https://twitter.com/PhilipGAlston/status/1255889283308814336
The UN appears to be offering Haitian cholera victims little more than platitudes. I am grateful to @antonioguterres for his reply, but dismayed by the lack of response to allegations that victims have not been assisted. 2/5
Rather than respond to our questions, the reply focuses on achievements against cholera. Great, but that's not the issue. The vague references to "intracommunity dialogue" and "community healing" also dodge the central question: what is the UN doing? 3/5
This letter brazenly confirms that the UN has no intention of doing anything to deliver justice for Haitian cholera victims. A tragedy for victims, shameful for the UN, and a shocking abdication of responsibility. 4/5
