There are people who will think this "take" is "hypocritical" on my part, but Social Media is probably bad for most people's mental health.

(A THREAD)

Keep in mind it's not as simple as "Social Media Bad".
Social Media can have a lot of positives and upsides and bring ppl together and allow for expression and appreciation, but that's not typically what happens.

Largely it devolves into the same negative popularity contest and attention-seeking as high school is, but much worse.
The anonymous nature of social media when combined with mob mentality also escalates bullying, and targeted attacks.

Putting out anything has the unintended consequence of potentially crippling anxiety over the feedback or criticism, or even just being ignored.
When combined with the desire or pressure to compete and compare in social media and the exposure to a whole other level of keeping up with the Jones (or Kardashians) and consumerism... it can make almost anyone feel less than and there is little ability to resist comparing.
Add to that, the fact it can reward bad behavior, ego-driven behavior, and attention-seeking and it becomes a breeding ground and hunting ground for bad actors...

This also produces a culture of copycats mimicking the worst of the worst and also being rewarded accordingly.
Based on your own personal baseline of mental health, it may be in your best interest to limit your use of social media to 1 hour a day or less unless it is a part of your job or career.

If you're an influencer you should set CLEAR BOUNDARIES for interacting with you.
NOT SETTING BOUNDARIES is the part that hurts Influencers/Creators the most and using it as non-stop real-time communication, and engaging w/ and addressing negativity at all through these platforms.

If it is your job, treat it like your job, clock out at some point.
