the issue w/books about race that are written for “allies” is that so many of them still fundamentally misunderstand rac[e/ism], whiteness, and anti-blackness as individual feelings, ignorance, and morality—instead of structural powers that the US political economy necessitates
everyone keeps talking about “institutionalized/systemic racism,” but still talks about race as if it’s merely a matter of individual(s’) feelings or actions. 😭 https://twitter.com/queersocialism/status/1270166479934291968?s=21
the US cannot function or exist w/o the racial regime, whiteness & anti-blackness. the entire economy, politically & otherwise—going back to the cotton industry; which introduced the world to the USofA as a global capitalist project—is predicated & sustained thru racial violence
racism is not a matter of individual ignorance or feeling that can be changed or eradicated via “understanding,” “tough conversations,” or a quick fix in morality & finally seeing subjects of its violence as human. 😭 you combat it thru targeting the (root) source: power/capital!
i’m skimming through “white fragility” (i fucking refuse to read this goddamn book in-full) and i’m just like??? what is this lady talking about??? 😭 there’s so much misinformation and lack of adequate citing. you lot are just letting ANYBODY write books, huh.
robin diangelo writing and releasing this book and forcing us to endure this godawful text is, in and of itself, a form of anti-black racism. please tell her i said it!!!

(and the fact that it’s categorized as a “self-help” book, just proves everything i just said^) goodnight!
