Latinx grocery stores who offer essential services and drive economic growth in our District 12 neighborhoods are seen as a clear strength. However, our voices are not represented on the council at an adequate level. Those contributions deserve equitable representation.
The study also finds that developing relationships with our Latinx community, specifically our youth, helps to improve public safety. What better way to empower Latinx youth than to show them that they too get a seat at the table? An important component of relationship building.
A short-term action of the proposal: "capitalize on the unique cultural context of the area". To "capitalize" off of a culture it is only fair that a culture have adequate representation on the council. D12 Precinct Committee voters have the opportunity to ensure that is the case
