Fascinating, Poland produced Fiats under licence from 1970. In the second half of the 1970s, strikes hit Turin and the owner of Fiat wanted to stop the strikes by meeting up with someone from the Italian Communist party. However he didn't want to lose face by meeting in Italy 1/3
So he contacted the Polish Communist Party (PZPR) who used their links to organise a meeting between Gianni Agnelli (Fiat's owner) and Giancarlo Paietta, a member of the Politburo of the Italian Communist Party 2/3
So Agnelli and Paietta met up for a walk in the woods in the Mazurian lake district and managed to work out a deal to call off the strike. Story found here /ends https://www.polityka.pl/tygodnikpolityka/historia/1520628,1,maly-ciasny-ale-wlasny-czyli-historia-126-p.read
