I wish people are mature enough to understand KANK! It was an important, it is still an important film to exist, not only in India but in the world! If you thought the film was all about infidelity then you didn't understand it!
If you don't tell me you didn't recognize this story as yours or as someone you know/might know then you're lying yourself. If you are interested to see what I think about the characters, why they cheated one another, why we should talk more about divorce follow this thread.
First of all, Maya! Most of the people, or at least I'm left with such impression, hated her the most. But why? You ask, why she married when she didn't love Rishi? Why she broke his heart, he loved her so much etc. etc. Maya did marry to make a compromise, true!
At the beginning of the film, the bench scene: Maya confesses to Dev the love she dreams about, & obviously she didn't love Rishi, rather she was attached to him. Maybe also out of fear to not be alone, or that people will say something.
Most important she did it because she felt gratitude because Rishi and his father were family to her. She can't wait forever for the true love. She should make the first step, she married him with the thought that she will fall in love with him, eventually.
But this didn't happen, unfortunately. She got mad for the little things he did. People annoy you only when you don't want to be with them. She is a mere teacher, fantasizing for the true love. Rishi did love her in his own way but not always the feelings should be mutual.
The strangest thing was Dev & Rhea, not strange in my opinion, but strange for many. People claiming Dev was misogynyst, he couldn't stand his wife because she was successful etc. etc. but it is not true. The film did make good points in the dialogue b/w Dev & Rhea.
That when men don't look after their children no one says anything but if a woman works and don't have time for her children everyone is shook. The roles were switched in this case. Only because the child is more close to their mother, and needs her attention the most!
Let's not forget that all of the characters lived in the United States. They led a modern independant life, which they would probably not receive back home. The infidelity, the divorce would be condemned much harsher. Take into consideration, this fact also.
Dev & Rhea had incompatibility in their characters. Both independant and with big attitude. It is said that two great people can't make a relationship. The one should always make compromises. Sorry to disappoint y'all, haven't seen other successful relationship other way round.
Why Maya & Dev fell in love, when Dev was rude and Maya was weird? Well, they both had the same situation, people with same situation feel empathy. And women & men can't be best friends, what else left but the empathy grows into love.
They did wrong to cheat on their spouses but it is a human mistake which is often commited. Their marriages were already broken, they would have split from the relationship anyways. Karan did one controversial film in a country where loveless marriages also occur. Kudos!
Dear boys & girls, I know for some divorce is taboo but would u spend a whole life with the wrong person rather? If you find this is not the right person for you, don't do it. Be with them just to assure they are not for you & there's nothing wrong to discover your feelings.
Not everyone is pleased and happy in the relationship but these are common human things. There will be broken hearts, but it is better to put an end to the relationship rather to lie to your partners. Don't feel guilty and don't let anyone else to decide for you.
This is your relationship! This is your private life! Of course, you're entitled to have opinion different than mine. Thanks anyways, that you read my Ted Talks!
