1. It's now evening, July 1, in Israel. Today was the day formal government deliberations on annexation could begin. It was never a drop-dead date for annexation to happen. It is not the time to let our guard down, even though the day has passed without any dramatic news.
2. We have been raising the alarm about annexation for three years. It was never just about July 1, 2020. It was the rise in illegal outpost construction in the last decade. The passage of the regularization law. Every Likud Knesset candidate endorsing annexation in April 2019.
3. Annexation has shifted from the political fringe into the mainstream. Under the coalition agreement between Likud and Kachol Lavan, discussions can move forward from today. Likud ministers have said a decision could be made as late as September. This issue is not going away.
4. Regardless of what happens in the coming weeks, the drive to cement a one-state reality, whether de jure or de facto, will continue. For more on this, check out our #AnnexationWatch resource: https://israelpolicyforum.org/annexationwatch/
