Yes yes. So Nollywood. Getting in. Making it. 1st thing. Don't be in a hurry. Look how long it's taken some of your faves. I think many of you actually forget that. You think it happened for them overnight. Bc we forget easily, you think Genevieve has always been this Genevieve.
But let me focus on screenwriting. The best places to start are TV. ROK commissions more than 200 movies a year. Africa Magic always has at least three soaps/series running, it means they're the biggest employers. Find a way to get in there. The how I know is the Koko.
I'd suggest networking. It's like any other industry, you need people to put in a word for you or make introductions. You need experience and here's where it gets tough bc if no one is willing to take a risk on you , how are you going to gain experience?
I personally don't read unsolicited stories/scripts basically to avoid stories that touch. I don't want anyone saying I stole their idea. Also, a lot of the work out there is not great. I'm sorry to break your hearts but you're not all that. So get that chip off your shoulder.
That's how they said Bubu was the best thing since moin moin, now look. So that script you've been hoarding waiting for a 1m buyer, you better sell to anyone actually willing to pay for it as long as it's a decent amount. Here's why; Time.
Time actually really flies. It's amazing to me that my first film, Okon Lagos was 10 yrs ago. A whole 10 years. I thought by now Ava and I would be walking down the streets of Bel Air talking about our best and worst films but look at me making threads on Twitter.

Also, you're as good as your last job. That script you sold for 200k may get you the 1m job which may never have happened. You're judged by your work that we can actually see, not the one in your head. No one cares how good U think it is bc it may actually not be. Again, Bubu.
And if U can't sell a script, write a dialogue of a few pages, get young actors to act it, put it on SM. It doesn't have to cost U anything, let's see ur brilliance n we'll come knocking. I really hate when ppl say no one is giving me a chance. Oh shut up! Create the damn chance!
I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have your work out there. When I went to Berlinale 12 or so years ago, it was bc I had a script which takes me to my next point. If you think your work is too good for Nollywood, then enter competitions, find an international gig
They're tough bt they exist. So if you're that good, you shld be able to get a leg in. Finally, make money. I'm always talking abt the rumpled adire which is my metaphor for broke. You really don't want to be wearing rumpled adire at 60 when U shld be at a nude beach. Hustle now!
