My #Canadian Story. 🇨🇦

A thread.

1/x.
20 years ago my family emigrated to #Canada. We were always meant to come here. It was Dad’s dream. 2/x.
By age 17 I had lived in 6 countries via Dad’s job. He had left #Scotland in 1982 to pursue a ship-surveying career that took us through Far East, Europe, Middle East. He always wanted to end up in Canada, believing it ideal for his kids to pursue their dreams. 3/x.
His grandfather had attempted a Canadian life. He studied in Edmonton at @UAlberta and, in fact, spent some time as an @NHL ref for a bit. 4/x.
For one reason or another Canada didn’t work out for him. He ended up back in Scotland as a headmaster and was even involved with the British Ice Hockey team at the 1948 Olympics. (Yes the one of #CanadianHeritageMinute fame for Canada). 5/x.
Fast-forward a few generations and my Dad insisted he would make Canada work, accepting a transfer with his company. Since we moved here in 2000, I studied @ukings in #Halifax, met my wife and we're now raising 2 Canadian girls. 6/x.
My siblings have come and gone, chasing their own careers. But I’ve always stuck it out believing I could chase my dreams in Halifax and Canada. 7/x.
Trouble was those dreams involved football management. 3 years ago that was still looking impossible...until @HFXWanderersFC and @CPLsoccer came into my life. 8/x.
In 2019 I left my 15 year career helping build an interactive tech studio in Halifax to truly pursue my own dream right here at home. It’s been an incredible ride so far and we have much more to achieve. 9/x.
In our maiden season, I would always look for my Dad across the pitch sitting high in the stands, one of the first to arrive. He never misses the warmup (when the pies are warmest and beers are coldest!) 10/x.
2020 has been a year of massive uncertainty and unprecedented challenges. I have no idea what the future holds. But I am certain on continuing to chase my dreams in the best country in the world. 11/x.
If you’ve read this far, kudos. Maybe some or all of this story resonates with your #CanadianStory. I hope you’ve had a drink in hand while you read, so you can say 'Cheers & #HappyCanadaDay.'

Never give up on your dreams. 🇨🇦 12/12.
