The habits & routines of @HughJackman from the latest episode of The @TimFerriss Show (Thread).

Firstly, it's worth noting that Hugh is a huge fan of Tim's, frequently thanking him & referencing episodes that he's enjoyed.

That made for a nice dynamic. Anyway...
Quality time in the morning

• Hugh and his wife read a book together each morning
• He has a cold shower, makes coffee for him, tea for her
• They take turns reading aloud to one another for at least 30min
• Then they meditate together
"It’s become our favorite time of the day as a couple. And we know that, no matter what happens in the day, which invariably gets away from you, you’ve had that quality time together." - @RealHughJackman
Meditation

• Hugh has practiced transcendental meditation since he was 23 (he's now 51)
• He repeats a mantra to quiet his "monkey mind"
• He tries to meditate twice a day for ≈20min
• Meditation gives him a "finer" energy
"I have a feeling of coming home, the feeling of experiencing my true self and not just being caught up in the monkey mind or being reactive to life." - @RealHughJackman
7 days a week

• When Hugh started acting, he vowed to never wait for the phone to ring
• He worked 7 days a week: "My feeling was you have to drive, you have to work"
• His brand was his name and he had to build it up
"You cannot be a victim, you cannot wait for the phone to ring. You have to go out and generate and get your brand out there and get going." - @RealHughJackman
Daily design

• Each morning he writes a plan for the day in the past tense as if it's already happened
• There's no "hope, think, or try"
• He texts it to his wife for accountability
• He scores each day out of 10
• It's his version of 'manifestation'
Hugh's known for getting into phenomenal physical shape for acting roles.

What's the one piece of workout equipment he'd take to a desert island?

• A rowing machine

"There’s a reason the rower’s usually empty at the gym—because it’s difficult."
The 85% rule

• The theory that athletes will perform better if you tell them to give 85% effort rather than 100% because they're more relaxed
• He says this can be applied to all pursuits
• Relax, don't try so hard
