here's a lil thread about demisexuality for u ace-erasure folks ~ demisexuality falls on the asexual spectrum, and is characterized by the ability to only *experience* sexual attraction once there is an emotional bond with someone. they can only experience sexual attraction AFTER
an emotional bond has been formed. demisexuals can be straight, gay, bi, pan, lesbian, etc. anything. im a pansexual demisexual, i don't care what's in your pants as long as i can form a connection with you, and that's the ONLY way i can be sexually attracted to you.
the bond need not just be romantic, it can be friendly as well. telling demisexuals "oh, you just don't like hook-up culture" is insulting to ace people who have been violated due to the erasure and misunderstanding of their own sexualities and makes you a fat fucking douchebag.
unfortunately, much of the oppression people on the ace spectrum face is by people in the LGBT+ community. for some reason we're all free to be attracted to whoever we want, but ostracized for not being able to experience sexual attraction. bigotry much?
on that note, just because you want to "save yourself" persay or genuinely do not like hook-up culture, doesn't make you demisexual. "the difference is that demisexuality isn’t about having sex. It’s about the ability to feel sexual attraction to specific people."
many straight people have appropriated this term as well, and that's deeply insulting to people of the community. ace people are vulnerable to abuse based on their lack of sexual attraction or desire. just because you don't understand something, doesn't mean it's invalid luv.
save us your feedback. and stop being hypocrites about a community that promises the freedom to existence and expression, just because their expression is different from yours.
