Cannot believe we are still having the absolutely absurd conversation over "Sikh is an ethnicity", but maybe this should illustrate the point - anyone who supports that view, should surely have no problem with people saying they are "1/4 Sikh", as Abhishek Bachchan did here? https://twitter.com/OfficialJassa/status/1278253746028531714
If "Sikh" is an ethnicity, that would mean that Nikki Haley is a "Sikh Christian". Are people also willing to accept that absurdity?
Identifying with your religious identity as a Sikh over your ethnic one, Sikhs having a cohesive religious group identity, and Sikhs being a nation all make sense to me - Sikh as ethnicity is absolutely stupid, whether it's for "representation" or "self-identification"
While Sikhs in the diaspora who come from ethnic Punjabi backgrounds continuously push this nonsense, practicing non-Punjabi Sikhs in South India (+Kashmir) mock Punjabis for how they don't even practice the faith stringently yet claim to be "more" Sikh. https://twitter.com/JungNihang/status/1166835326272397313
