If you know me, you know I love Canada and want to live and die here. There is a lot to be grateful for.

So I will start here with #HappyCanadaDay #CanadaDay2020 #OhCanada

So what do you do with a country you love, knowing that there is still so much to be done?

(Thread)
1) Be honest with it. Being a patriot doesn't mean blindly accepting things that you know are wrong. If you really care about Canada, you will share ideas and take action to make it a better place.
2) Acknowledge that we have real problems of systemic oppression, racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, etc. There is nothing to be gained from having a superiority complex and believing that we have no problems here.
3) Review and change policies which perpetuate oppression against many populations here, including Black and Indigenous communities, along with so many more.
4) Take a close look at the process of how wealth and power is generated and distributed, recognize the inequities and then change the system to remove and rebalance them. The country isn't working if it's not working for everyone.
This is just a start, but reflects some of my personal commitments and how I want to see Canada evolve and grow to be a country that truly supports everyone with equity and justice.

What about you?
