I have always been a curious reader, but I hardly talk about what am I reading. So I have decided to start posting about whatever I read and learned in a week, every Wednesday, starting today.
My topic for this week is Managing Personal Finances. Here's a thread :
My topic for this week is Managing Personal Finances. Here's a thread :

1/ I grew up in a family where risk-averse investments have always been considered to be the way to go to save money. When I started earning myself, I turned to my family to ask for help in managing my finances and heard the standard FD/RD response.
2/ It is certainly a stable option, and I gave into it. But I wanted to explore more investment options and do better. I had heard about mutual funds, SIPs, and stock options but was always intimidated by it.
3/ This week, I discovered @thetanmay's edu-tainment youtube channel called 'Honestly by Tanmay Bhat'. He addresses the problem faced by me in a series of videos called 'Clueless' and brings together many young artists and creators to talk about how do they manage their money.
4/ I learned I am not the only one who struggles with this problem, and it was a great starting point to have a conversation about this problem. My biggest takeaway from his videos was to START TALKING ABOUT MONEY WITH YOUR FRIENDS, and don't 'hate' money.
5/ I also found out about Zerodha some time ago, thanks to this tweet by @palakzat https://twitter.com/palakzat/status/1272897282401341441?s=20
After taking a look at their website, I discovered @ZerodhaVarsity, which is an online education book covering everything from the basics to advanced trading.

6/ @ZerodhaVarsity changed everything for me. This is the first time that I was learning about stock markets right from scratch without any frills. The content cards on the app are crisp and can be easily understood by anyone with no background in finance whatsoever.
7/ They have also broken down content into various modules and levels of difficulty, which paces your learning well, and makes the process less daunting. I have already completed my first module on stock market basics, will jump to trading, analysis, and investment modules soon.
8/ I cannot end this thread without giving a shoutout to @finshots
Even though their content doesn't cover managing personal finances directly, but they simplify financial, policy, and business developments, whose effects can trickle down to one's financial decisions.

9/ I have been glued to @finshots since October 2019. Their simplified, jargon-free writing makes them one of the best subscriptions for financial market understanding and I would highly recommend subscribing to the newsletter.
10/ I am still learning but these 3 resources have simplified the learning process for me. I hope this thread helps anyone who is looking for a starting point to learn about managing finances or anyone who is struggling to make sense of the financial news in the papers.
