On the surface this would seem like solid analysis except cheating is never about just wanting someone else. It’s more about being too insecure/afraid to walk away when you’re unhappy and communicate your wants and needs before getting deep into your relationship. https://twitter.com/yvsvfkolawole/status/1278209626727686145
It’s often also about being socialized to believe monogamous relationships are “right” and settling for that when you know it doesn’t suit you. It’s about going along to get along and lacking the conviction to defy social norms to be truly happy.
It’s about emotional immaturity and disregard for others. Cheating happens in all types of relationships because people fear loneliness more than they value living in their truth. No one has to cheat. Everyone who cheats chooses to cheat. Rarely do people want to own that
“Why did you cheat?”
“Cuz I felt like it.”
That’s really the only answer.
Everything else is a feeble attempt to justify one’s harmful behaviors.
