I have to say that at an earlier stage in the pandemic I was willing to cut all politicians a lot of slack, suspend my disbelief etc etc https://twitter.com/NicolaSturgeon/status/1278279964912226305
But here you have an example of why it's so difficult.
The FM's daily media briefing seems to have morphed into a wider-ranging, and very political, event.
Equally significant is the SNP's tactic of keeping the leader, if not snow white and pure, above the rougher end of political/constitutional argument.
So, for example, only one step down in the hierarchy, their leader in the Commons retweeted approvingly a message with a border sign photoshopped to say (excuse me) 'We're Shut. Fuck Off!'
And further down the food chain ordinary members (if their Twitter profiles are to be believed) tweet messages about the border that are little short of Anglophobic (trans. 'Hating the English')
This is the way the SNP works.
