Goood morning NYC, back at #OccupyCityHallNYC where dozens of NYPD have lined up adjacent to occupied public plaza. Mood is tense.
After having taken the nearby roadways last night, activists are back in the plaza, with arms linked, several feet away from rowd of NYPD officers
All kinds of make shift protective gear
Tense, but still festive.
Unofficial anthem of last few weeks plays..
“Do not throw nothing,” activist urges, telling people to stay calm and not to agitate.

Riot police now retreating from street, crowd sings.
👁 spy street medic in a tree.
Tensions diffused for now, folks fall back into the plaza, some are picking up trash from night before.
Activist on mic is calling for volunteers to run a food table, pick up trash and.... clean up a human shit from one part of the encampment. If you can’t find a bathroom, she says “please don’t shit and piss in a place where people sleep.”
organizer @NelStamp describes how tensions diffused this morning, as NYPD officers retreated without using batons on marchers, unlike yesterday morning.
To fully capture the 180 in mood at #OccupyCityHallNYC someone is now leading meditation and breathing exercises.. a few minutes ago they were prepared for a battle.
Meeting soon about next steps, some of the main organizers are saying they’re ending the 24 hour occupation and plan to pack up soon, others say they plan to stay on.
Organizer Jonathan Lykes says 2 people were arrested over night, and congratulated crowd who came in order of the day they arrived at the occupied space.
Lykes says main organizers are stepping back, says they’re tired and need to rest, says people can stay if they want and lead organizers will support remotely.
“We are the New York moment family... can we clap it up for that,” he says.
Leads chants of “the action is over, we will create new actions,” as they thank all the folks who brought food, brought supplies.
Claps for “bathroom faeries” who escorted people and helped find bathrooms that could be used throught the week, claps for the people’s bodega, and street medics.
. @NelStamp thanks the homeless folks who lived in the plaza before and shared space with occupiers.
“All you need to sustain the space is electricity water and food,” “this space will continue forever..this is the place for us to plan future direct actions together... if you all have other things this place should be do it.,” Lykes says.
They’re passing out bottles of Champaign in celebration.
