Really great to see Couch to 5K is trending. I love the app so much. If you've been thinking about starting, you've downloaded the app and not used it, or you've run once and never again, here are a few things that might help you stick with it.
The second you think about running, go. I've been running for months and my brain still comes up with wildly elaborate reasons not to.
Your progress might not be linear! The app narration doesn't really talk about repeating weeks, or going back a step. I do this all the time. I'm doing little 20 minute runs at the moment so I'm back at week 5. I repeated week 3 half a dozen times. It's OK!
Put your running gear on in the morning. Some days you still won't actually run until 7pm, but usually this motivates me to go out sooner because otherwise you're wearing a sports bra when you don't need to be.
Eat a banana. Look, I know everyone tells would-be runners to eat bananas, but potassium is great for energy and they really do help with longer runs. 🍌🍌🍌
It's OK to stop halfway through! I get mega cramp in my calves and some days my legs are having none of it. You're NOT failing if you need to walk it out.
Seriously, the biggest struggle is getting out of the door. Keep doing that, keep trying and you'll become a runner without even realising.
I am so slow, I think I manage a 10-minute mile? (I don't measure my speed or distance.) It doesn't matter how fast you go.
Run towards nice things. On Monday I went running while Tom made me Potato Waffles. Sometimes I run to the nice cheese shop. I really miss running to the pub. 🧀🧀🧀
Running is hard to begin with and running regularly is even harder - it's brave to even start! - but I have never once regretted going out for a run. I *always* feel better it.
