The leadership election is getting a bit personal and at times nasty for my taste. So as a passionate and ardent Ed supporter I'd like to explain why I hugely respect and admire @LaylaMoran...
As a former teacher, Layla has put a radical education agenda at the heart of the party's offer and given us a lot of credibility in this policy space. She gets it and is able to communicate our vision for better teaching and education brilliantly.
Layla's crusades to end the vagrancy act & eliminate period poverty show her ability to take often marginalised issues and promote social justice. It's been hugely educating and inspiring, and I always watch out for what Layla is campaigning on.
Layla is a member of @MoreUnitedUK, was a key voice in the @peoplesvote_hq campaign and has taken a personal role in building progressive alliances and coalitions to defeat the Tories.
Layla is the first UK MP of Palestinian decent and the first openly pansexual MP. She carries the responsibility of this brilliantly, ensuring that Palestinian voices are heard in Parliament and LGBTQ+ issues are taken seriously 🇵🇸🏳️‍🌈
I have no doubt Layla would make a fine leader of our party and if she wins I will back her to the hilt. I just happen to believe in a different candidate's vision and leadership style but we are all Lib Dems fighting for our party and our country. Let's not forget that.
