Today is birth & death anniversary of best CM of Bengal Dr. Bidhan Chandra Ray.Apart from being one of the best physician he was known for political decency. Once then opposition leader,Jyoti Basu was walking to a protest site to protest against his rule. 1/5

Bidhan Roy's car was passing by. He saw him,told him " You look disheveled. It seems you have not eaten for a long time. Why are you walking." Basu replied "You have increased tram fare, so I am walking."
Bidhan Roy replied "You can't defeat me or Congress in empty stomach. 2/5

Come to my car. I have some luchi with me. Let's eat together. Then you go to the protest site and criticize me as much as you can. ".

That's Bidhan Roy. He did not took fees as doctor. The day he died, he treated patients in the morning. 3/5

Under his rule as CM, Bengal was a leading industrial state. As CM he built five cities Bidhannagar, Habra, Kalyani, Durgapur and Ashoknagar. He was very sympathetic to mental health patients and played a major role in establishing "Indian Institute of Mental Health". 4/5

Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital and Jadavpur TB Hospital were established by him. Bidhan Roy, a lifelong Congressman, had donated his house to people of Bengal a year before his death.
Bengal is still searching for another Bidhan Roy, but he is the rarest of rare gem.
