Due to an influx of new followers – Hello to you all and thank you for following :) - we thought it might be useful to share a little summary of SCALES and our project so far… SCALES is the first UK population study of language development and disorder at school entry… (1/5)
We have been tracking the development of a large group of children from reception (age 4/5). In reception year (2011/12), we screened 7267 children in schools across Surrey, and 590 were randomly chosen for in-depth assessments of language, social, and cognitive skills...(2/5)
These children represent the full range of language and communication abilities. The children have been assessed in Years 1, 3 & 6 and we are currently in our 4th wave of in-depth assessments now that the children are in Year 8... (3/5)
As the children get older, we are interested in understanding the links between children’s talking skills and their SEMH, including how children use their language skills to help manage their own feelings/behaviours and to understand the feelings/behaviours of others.. (4/5).
