I see Couch to 5K is trending and as I've said many times before, I did it 4 years ago and it CHANGED MY LIFE. At the time, I hadn't done any meaningful exercisefor 33 years. I'd been a smoker and I was overweight and heading towards despair tbh #C25K
I went out in the early morning where nobody could see me, with a jumper tied around my waist because I was so self conscious. I forced myself to get through it and as soon as I finished Run 1, I vomited #C25K
I surprised myself by not giving up and went out 3 times a week, religiously. I did not sleep the night before the last run of Week 5, the 20 minute run. I was so scared, but I powered through and did it and that was one of the better moments of my life #C25K
I repeated Wk 5 many times before I felt ready for Week 6 and beyond. There's nothing wrong with repeating a week. Do it at your own pace. I know it's a 9 Week programme but it took me 17 weeks to complete and I never felt bad about it #C25K
4 years later, I'm still running. I'll never stop running now, I love the peace, the early morning air, the absolute thrill of having a body that can move repetitively for an hour at a time, even though it's a slow slog through the kilometres. I'm never going to be speedy #C25K
So I would recommend it to everyone. I feel better, I look better, I like myself more. And my favourite thing about it, the one thing that gets me through is my playlist. It's huge, over 400 of my favourite songs, carefully curated. I couldn't do it without music #C25K
Make your playlist, download your audiobooks, switch on your podcast. Find the thing you like, upload the app and give it a go. Don't worry about speed, or repeating weeks. Don't worry about other people. Give it a try and I will be your cheerleader. You can do it. You can #C25K
