/ So these 27 Niagara businesses that penned a letter to Niagara municipalities, asking us to restructure and cut costs, should be the first ones to endorse slashing the Niagara Regional Police budget, right?
/ Cut the NRP by 20% and boom, there’s about $34 million, fellas. Am I following their logic?
/ Since policing is our Region’s single biggest expenditure, I look forward to hearing from them about this. During a pandemic, surely they don’t want to cut Water, Public Health, Long Term Care or slash capital projects that would get people working and stimulate the economy?
/ They don’t want to cut Housing & Homelessness budgets or sell off Niagara Regional Housing buildings to the private sector, do they?
/ St. Catharines was facing a $10 million shortfall. Services have been cut and staff have been laid off, some with years of seniority. But they wants us to slash & burn more? Do we defer capital projects that would get people working again so they can pay rent, buy a car, eat..
/ ...out at restaurants, all things that would keep the economy going? Do we close pools and arenas, or maybe stop maintaining parks?
/ Really looking forward to digging into the details with this group, and how they think government should “run like a business”.
/ I remember when we had a lot of business guys running the Region and the NPCA last term of Council. Are they longing for those days?
