Elizabeth Blackwell (February 3, 1821 – May 31, 1910) was a British physician, notable as the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States, and the first woman on the Medical Register of the General Medical Council.

Capt. Laxmi Sahgal (24 October 1914 – 23 July 2012) an officer of the Indian National Army, received an MBBS degree from Madras Medical College in 1938. A year later, she received her diploma, in gynaecology and obstetrics. She headed the Women's regiment of Azad Hind Sena.
