With all the uncertainty of the fall, I've heard parents talking about pulling their kids from school altogether. Not sure how widespread this might be, but I suspect that more parents with means will consider this.
I haven't heard much talk about this, but I'm concerned that COVID-19 will not only exacerbate inequity, but furthermore exacerbate segregation. It seems also that parents with means are exiting the city. We already had some of the most segregated schools in the nation...
As someone who believes in the potential of integrated schools, I'm worried that any progress we may have made over the past few years will be lost. Is there a silver lining here or more positive hopes for integrated schools after the pandemic that I'm missing?
I certainly hope so, because I doubt racial and class injustice can be fully rectified until we live, work, and attend schools together.
