It's truly wild how much property in Black neighborhoods in Chicago is owned by Eastern Europeans, Israelis, and South Asians if it's not owned by NYC private equity firms. Immigrant communities love meritocracy myths but white supremacy hands us our bootstraps.
Access to credit and capital, whether from within an immigrant community or from banks (whose judgement of creditworthiness are deeply racist) makes it possible for immigrants to build wealth in a couple of decades that Black Americans can't achieve in generations.
Then you see immigrants leverage that power to exploit poor and working class Black people, many of whom are functionally ghettoized in cities like Chicago, for profit. Pangea's just the most egregious example. https://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/chicago-evictions-pangea/Content?oid=70318054
Obviously I'm not trying to promote any type of xenophobia, don't even start with that shit! But I think when it comes to doing anti-racist work among immigrants, it's important to tackle this issue head-on.
