While 90% of my content is geared toward offensive stats/metrics/players, I still want to educate others & contribute to growing the IDP analytics landscape
With my Disruption Score™, I believe I’m doing that.
Here is a 2020 update on the IDP metric I created last offseason!

What is Disruption Score, you may ask?
Essentially, it summarizes how effective a player was getting behind the line of scrimmage and *disrupting* the play. Whether pressuring the QB, getting a sack, batting a pass, or forcing a fumble, Disruption Score puts it all in one metric

Here, you can find the breakdown of the top 100 Disruption Scores since 2003-04 (new additions in the top 100 from last year in orange)
Here are those top 25 seasons in a table, with sacks and QB hits shown as just pieces of the puzzle
A truly elite season= 60+ Disruption Score

When I debuted the score, a lot of people instantly asked if this is actually a predictive stat
The answer is YES!
There have been 49 disruption scores since 2003-04 of 60+
Of the 35 to play the next year, they AVERAGED 9.5 sacks
That’s a massive edge to see a full year ahead

While it isn’t a LB/DB metric necessarily, the cream still rises to the top regardless of designation. An elite Disruption Score for DL is 60+, but you can draw similar analysis from LBs averaging 25+ for their careers
When looking for some IDP dynasty buys, it’s good to find players who break out young (and at stellar pace).
Players in bold have less than 3 eligible seasons (25+ tackles) so far in their career, with Disruption Scores at a very promising rate.

I foolishly only checked this during one week last season, but when I did, disparities between Disruption Score and Sack % have HUGE predictive insights into future sack regression candidates. Could’ve made some decent money last season....

Another cool way to visualize this data is to look at career arcs to see if a certain breakout year is fluky or not, and this is something I can easily pull up for anyone curious about a young IDP talent!
Once again, here are the top 25 Disruption Scores from last season (players under 25 in bold)
Don’t forget that @JJWatt was on a monster run before his injury. I can’t wait to watch him this season, & hopefully push for all those Disruption records Cam Wake holds at 33+ y/o

I’ll be back with #SFBX strategy tomorrow, but if you haven’t given IDP a shot before I highly recommend it! I’ve learned more about the game of football after joining an IDP league than I ever did before that. It truly changes how you watch the game, and is so much fun to try!
