You will have seen stories about abuse of disabled people & children in services run by disability charities. These cases are followed by important critiques of governance & safeguarding practices, but I haven't seen a critique of power & privilege. 1/3
My view is that abuse of marginalised people is the result of systems of oppression - in this case, disablism. I haven't seen any open debate that addresses disablism in response, certainly not in the mainstream of the charity sector. Have I missed something? 2/3
It's time for an open & honest conversation about the disempowerment of disabled people in the charity sector. 3/3
