I was moved watching the anthem this weekend in the @NWSL. I also was torn. I thought this piece from @lgbtqfc I referenced on @AroundtheHorn got to the bottom of it. https://twitter.com/AllForXI/status/1277603137776427008
Here’s our next day, because there was more to this story and the NWSL made the ruling to allow players to choose sideline or locker room for anthem, to avoid any division.

Full stop: doesn’t that create more division?

Here, @SarahSpain’s answer.

@TheFrankIsola also had some strong words, based more@on the differences of people, I’ll try to track that down.

For me, I’m intrigued to see the anthem which was such a flashpoint years ago based on purposeful distraction of what it was, still being the inflection point for
division. After nearly every team and league released their statements supporting personal belief and protest - and some even acknowledging the missteps of the past- it just seems like where headed exactly where we were five years ago.
Clinton brought up the facts of the authoring of the song, details available to all - its right there inthe verses of the song! - but often dismissed. We have all released the details of the Flag Code- and how quite often these pregame ceremonies don’t conform to that.
That the behavior off the field during the anthem at a stadium-or at home on couch while it’s happening -surely isn’t held to the same level. That there’s a betting line at the Super Bowl every year on the anthem! I didn’t have the time yesterday to bring up the Senate hearing
from five years ago that demonstrated how the Pentagon paid for patriotism, because we’ve already written that so many times through the years.

And none of that had any affect on where we were this week, Casey Short on a knee crying- You can’t help but be moved. But it’s the
reasons for why you’re being moved that make the position that atheletes are put in untenable- that no one else, elsewhere seemsto be in- Do they play the anthem at the start of the Stock Market each day? Silicon Valley? At the start of each tv show, movie? In each hospital?
